Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated Jyoti Gondek and Amarjeet Sohi on their historic election as the mayors of Calgary and Edmonton.
“Albertans went to the polls and cast their votes yesterday – to the new mayors of Calgary and Edmonton, Jyoti Gondek and Amarjeet Sohi, congratulations on your historic wins! And to everyone who won last night, I’m looking forward to working with you and making real progress,” Trudeau said in a statement posted online.
Trudeau further added “I also want to thank the former mayors, Naheed Nenshi and Don Iveson, for their years of public service. Naheed and Don, you have been strong voices and visionary leaders for your communities – and I’m wishing you both nothing but the best in the years ahead.”
Gondek secured 174,649 votes, leading the preliminary results by 58,907 votes over Farkas, who has secured 1157,42 votes so far.
Meanwhile, former city councillor, Jeff Davison, has secured 50,279 votes, with 259 of 259 tabulators reporting.
Meanwhile, Amarjeet Sohi held a lead over Mike NICKEL for Edmonton mayor, having secured 105497 votes, 45.09% of the total votes cast in today’s election.
