Jyoti Gondek becomes first female mayor of Calgary

Preliminary results show former city councillor Jyoti Gondek holding a lead over Jeromy Farkas for Calgary mayor.

Gondek secured 174,649 votes as of 11:10 am MT Tuesday, leading the preliminary results by 58,907 votes over Farkas, who has secured 115,742 votes so far.

Meanwhile, former city councillor, Jeff Davison, has secured 50,279 votes, with 259 of 259 tabulators reporting.

Farkas conceded the race for mayor to Gondek late on Monday night, saying Gondek ‘earned the trust of Calgarians to lead and I hope you lead by example.’

As of 6 p.m. voting stations reported voter turnout of approximately 129,500. The final turnout for 2021 Advance Vote was 141,329, the highest Advance Vote turnout to date, according to City of Calgary.
