The inident took place on Thursday in Etawah district of Utter Pradesh in North of India.
The bride, only identified as Surbhi, died of a heart attack after she collapsed while exchanging traditional garlands with husband-to-be Manjesh Kumar.
However, the India Today reported that Surbhi collapsed and died of heart attack after crying inconsolably during her ‘bidaai’ while leaving for her in-laws’ house.
Instead of halting the ceremony, the families of the bride and groom decided to continue with the festivities by replacing the bride with her sister, the News18 reported.
“We did not know what to do in the situation. Both the families sat together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha should be married to the groom. The families discussed the matter and both agreed,” Surabhi’s brother, Saurabh was quoted as saying in a report by IANS.
This comes as a young bride died after suffering cardiac arrest in Odisha state of India in March this year.
