The Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam has warned that everybody is at risk as the number of COVID-19 positive cases rose to over 6,100 across Canada.
Dr. Tam said in a Twitter late on Sunday “#COVID19 cases continue to ↑ across Flag of Canada, over 6,100 cases. At any one time, there are many others under investigation, awaiting laboratory results, or not yet tested. #Everybody is at risk.”
Citing case reports, Dr. Tam further added 9-12 percent of hospital COVID-19 cases involve people under the age of 40, which highlights that younger people also develop illness severe enough to require hospitalization.
According to Dr. Tam, the provincial and public health laboratories have so far completed 210,435 tests across Canada, out of which 6,156 patients tested for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported that the number of cases rose to 6,280 from 5,655 on Saturday, while death toll climbed to 63 from 61, according to Reuters.
The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said the government is not planning to use troops to help combat the spread of the disease.
However, Trudeau has said the option to use the military force is on the table as all 10 provinces declared states of emergency and ordered people to stay home.
