Fernandez defeated Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 on to advance to the round of 16, before crushing Alize Cornet in her opening match.
The 19-year-old from Montreal will take on Shelby Rogers in round four. She could meet second seed Iga Swiatek in the last eight, according to Tennis Canada.
Fernandez is one of three Canadians remaining in the tournament, the Tennis Canada said, adding that Denis Shapovalov and Bianca Andreescu will both look to join her in the third round of singles, on Monday.
Andreescu will play Anett Kontaveit as she seeks to defend the title she won 31 months ago, while Shapovalov, the lone Canadian left on men’s side, will face the 18th seed Aslan Karatsev.
