A flight carrying a group of local Afghan staff of NATO landed in Canada earlier this week, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said.
“Earlier this week, as part of Canada’s strong and long-standing relationship with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), we welcomed a flight of NATO-referred Afghan locally engaged staff, contractors and their family members to Canada,” IRCC said in a statement.
The statement further addednthat Canada has committed to resettle up to 472 NATO-identified locally engaged staff, contractors and their family members.
These refugees will be welcomed as part of our humanitarian program for Afghan refugees, IRCC added.
The Government of Canada recently announced it will double its humanitarian resettlement commitment from 20,000 to 40,000 Afghan refugees.
