Calgary Police release details of second man involved in fatal downtown nightclub shooting

The Calgary Police released details of the second man involved in a fatal shooting which took place outside a nightclub in downtown Calgary last week.

“Jesse Michael MARTINEZ, 35, of Calgary, is wanted on Canada-wide warrants for second-degree murder,” the Calgary Police said in a statement released earlier tonight.

On Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, officers were called to the Junction Underground nightclub, located at 628 8 Ave. S.W., around 2:40 a.m., for reports that someone had been shot.

The victim, John Mitchell Smith Jr., was taken to hospital but died later as a result of his injuries.

“Our homicide investigators, and all of the supporting investigative teams, have worked around the clock since this tragic event occurred to identify the suspect and hold him accountable,” said Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the CPS Homicide Unit. “We are asking the public to call police if they know of Jesse Michael MARTINEZ’s whereabouts.”

Anyone with information about MARTINEZ’s whereabouts is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234, the Calgary Police said, adding that tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through 1-800-222-8477.
