The Alberta Health reported 4,740 new positive cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) over a period of three days.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, said Monday the Alberta Health identified 1,584 new cases of COVID-19 by completing 13,300 tests in the past 24 hours.
Hinshaw further added that the Alberta Health identified 1,497 new cases on 11th of September and 1,659 cases on 10th of September.
“Sadly, 18 new deaths related to COVID-19 were also reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours,” Dr. Hinshaw said in a statement posted online.
She also added that 803 people are currently in hospital due to COVID-19 and 198 of them of them are being treated in Intensive Care Unit.
“There are currently 803 people in hospital due to COVID-19. Of the 605 non-ICU, 73.7% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Of the 198 in ICU, 90.4% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated,” Dr. Hinshaw said.
Emphasizing that the Albertans are at another challenging time in this pandemic, Dr. Hinshaw said “We need more Albertans immunized to prevent such outcomes. We know vaccines can limit new cases, and help prevent severe outcomes, and hospitalizations over the long term.”
